Notes from Charles Stanley:
Self-control is thinking before I act and considering seriously the possible results. Are you in a tug of war about an on-going practice in your life? You know you shouldn’t continue this way, but you don’t listen to the Holy Spirit and continue. This causes you anxiety. You’re in a constant battle within yourself. You can’t have real joy and peace living this way. If you live in disobedience before God, there are consequences. What is the key to self-control?
**Think before acting. *Have a strong desire to obey God. **
Believe that the Holy Spirit will enable you. He has promised to lead us to doing right. Lack of self-control has dramatic effects on your life.
**How does this affect me spiritually? **How does this affect how others see me?
*What are the consequences of these actions? *Is the fruit of the Spirit evident in your life everyday? Whatever a man sows, he will reap. It is a dangerous thing to hear the Word of God and do it anyway. You reap what you sow.
Galatians 6:7 God has the BEST for me. What am I doing in my life that is cheating me out of God’s BEST? WHAT IS IT THAT I CANNOT LET GO OF?
What is it I cannot let go of?
